Alabaster is a metamorphic stone composed of partially crystallized gypsum [CaSO4]. I am attracted to alabaster by its transperancy. Moreover, being compact and tough the stone is easy to work with. Thin partitions allow light to diffuse through the stone. It is this characteristic which I pay attention to and utilize when shaping the sculpture. Alabaster is found in many countries: amongst others, Italy, Spain and Egypt.
