The trees rise towards the sky, beautiful symbol of Nature’s aspiration towards the light(Sri Aurobindo)

Windless in the unbearable ability
to stand still while moving
to live from nothing but air and earth
finally changing into mould
(Christiaan van Geel)
Trees are the largest and oldest living organisms on earth. Through their age trees have become symbols of (eternal) life. The tree of life is a world wide phenomena. Trees appeal to me right to my core. Their structure reflects that of my own lungs, blood vessels and nervous system. Knots and scars not only illustrate a tree’s history but are also signs as to how trees survive in spite of setbacks. To me, age old oaks, lime trees and planes have bared witness to centuries of history. I try to envisage this astounding vitality in my paintings.
