Sculpture gives me an opportunity to translate the concepts which I have built up with painting into three dimensions. I have spent time analysing the characteristics and structure of various stones en kinds of timber. Stones which have been formed over millions of years. Each stone has its own story which I try to bring out in my sculptures. Each type of wood has its own markings, grain, texture and colour. I try to make maximum use of these characteristics in my sculptures. Wood is a medium we naturally relate to. Wood was once alive in a tree but for me it is still alve in its grain, texture, colour and its sense of direction.
I usually come to abstract forms. However, my fascination for nature draws me closer to organic structures, lines and forms. Serpentine, alabaster and steatite are my favourite materials to work with.
